What is the difference between spring and compression spring

2023-12-15

A mechanical part with the ability to hold and release energy as needed is a spring. A spring deforms when a load is applied, and it returns to its original shape when the load is released.

A compression spring is a kind of spring that experiences compressed load application. When the load is discharged, it is intended to withstand compression and revert to its initial length.

However, any elastic object that has the ability to deform and return to its original shape is referred to as a spring, which is a more broad phrase. In addition to compression springs, other kinds of springs including tension, torsion, and leaf springs are also included in this.

Thus, a spring is any elastic object that has the ability to deform and return to its original shape; compression springs, on the other hand, are a particular kind of spring made to withstand compression.
